The Montana Invasive Species Council was proactively created by the Montana Governor’s office in 2015 and tasked with identifying priority invasive species issues and making recommendations to improve invasive species management.

Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks

MT FWP AIS Bureau manages the state of Montana’s Aquatic Invasive Species. “These aquatic invasive species include plants, animals, and pathogens that are non-native to our ecosystems and cause harm to natural and cultural resources, the economy, and human health. Invasive species often reproduce and spread rapidly due to a lack of predators or competitors to keep their populations in check.”

Montana Department of Agriculture

The Department of Agriculture’s Noxious Weed Programs offer resources and assistance with the management of state- and county-listed noxious weeds. These include grants for counties, tribes, landowners, researchers, and educators; noxious weed free certification of forage products such as hay, pellets and straw, as well as gravel, mulch and other construction materials; Early Detection, Rapid Response for Montana’s Priority 1 and 2A species and those species yet to invade Montana; and Statewide Coordination which includes maintaining and updating the Montana Noxious Weed Management Plan, State Agency/County Biennial Report, County and Agency Management Plans, Noxious Weed Listing Committee and petition process, and serving on many non-profit, agency, and regional weed boards and councils.

In Montana, feral swine are regulated by the Department of Livestock. Montana’s definition of feral swine includes animals living in an untamed or wild state, as well as swine that appear to be contained for commercial hunting or trapping.
